When it comes to carpet or flooring installation, preparation is key. Being prepared for the installation of your flooring will help the entire process run as quickly and as efficiently as possible. To help you out, Carpetland USA has put together a preparation list of what to do before, during and after installation to ensure the installation of your new flooring is smooth sailing.
Before
Special arrangements should be made to remove all furnishing from the installation area, such as dishwashers, refrigerators, washers/dryers and couches. Moving these items before the installation team arrives simplifies the installation process, saving you time and money. In addition to furnishings, you should also consider removing old floor coverings. If you decide to remove the coverings, be sure to remove all staples from the floor. Tack strips should be left in place for the crew to remove upon installing your new flooring.
During
Plan on being home the entire day of installation in case the installation crew has questions or concerns. Because flooring installation is a home improvement project, be prepared for some noise and strong odors during the process. While you should be present during the installation, pets and small children should be attended to and kept away from the installation area at all times.
After
As with any home improvement project, it is important to do a thorough inspection of the job upon completion. Try to inspect the installation job while the crew is still on site so they can answer any questions or concerns you may have. While the installation team will clean up and remove all leftover scraps, be sure to do a final walkthrough to look for additional staples or nails.
