More than 25% of people in the United States do some or all of their work from home. Sometimes it’s hard to be our most productive in our house because we think of it as a place for relaxation and spending time with loved ones.
It’s important to designate a place in your home for working. We’ve got a few ideas for creating a functional home workspace!
Get a minimalistic desk. Don’t worry, we’re not talking about desk surface area. A shelf desk is really beneficial because it doesn’t take over your space. The best part is it gives you storage (and foot) space underneath.
Hide your cords. You don’t want work to take over your entire house. Keeping your area tidy will help you compartmentalize work and play. You don’t want to create a tripping hazard, either. There are a lot of creative ways to camouflage your cords.
Stay inspired. Since you’re in your home, putting family pictures on your desk may seem redundant. Instead, hang a metal or cork board behind your desk with images, patterns, and anything that reminds you of what you’re passionate about.
A desk lamp is necessary. Illuminated spaces make for more conducive work environments. They’re also great décor pieces that do not invade your workspace or overwhelm your desk. So whether it’s for aesthetic or extra light, your home work station needs a lamp.
Where your workspace is in your home is completely up to you. If you can find a place exposed to natural light, you may find it easier to read and focus – it’s the opposite of a cubicle!
No matter your decorating tastes, remember, the best home workspace is one where you feel inspired and productive.
