A commercial flooring renovation can do more than update the look of a building. The right flooring can help create a more cohesive, functional environment throughout an entire facility.
For this recent commercial flooring project, the Carpetland USA Moline team helped transform a local church with nearly 10,000 square feet of new luxury vinyl plank flooring. The project included flooring throughout many different areas of the building, including the kitchen, offices, hallways, classrooms, meeting spaces, entry areas, public gathering spaces, and the church’s cafetorium.
The existing flooring had become noticeably dated over the years. Different hard-surface commercial tiles had also been installed in different areas of the building, resulting in a patchwork appearance from one space to another.
By selecting one commercial LVP throughout much of the facility, the church was able to create a cleaner, more consistent look while still choosing flooring designed for the demands of a busy commercial environment.
Nearly 10,000 Square Feet of Commercial LVP
For the renovation, the church selected Philadelphia Commercial luxury vinyl plank by Shaw, providing a practical hard-surface flooring solution for the wide variety of spaces within the building.
Flooring details:
- Manufacturer: Shaw / Philadelphia Commercial
- Style: Indwell 20
- Color: Honeycomb
- Flooring Type: Commercial Luxury Vinyl Plank
- Project Size: Just under 10,000 square feet
The Honeycomb color brings a warm, natural flooring look to the facility while working well with the different furnishings, wall colors, and functions found throughout the building.
Rather than treating each room or hallway as a separate flooring decision, the project used the same flooring to visually connect the building.
One Flooring Choice Creates a More Cohesive Church Interior
Churches are unique commercial flooring environments because a single building may contain many different types of spaces.
This project included flooring for:
- Entry and public gathering areas
- Hallways and corridors
- Church offices
- Classrooms
- Meeting rooms
- Kitchen areas
- Community spaces
- A cafetorium combining cafeteria and stage functions
Previously, the building contained a mixture of different hard-surface flooring products. Moving from one area to another often meant encountering another flooring color, pattern, or tile style.
Installing the same Philadelphia Commercial LVP across these spaces helped eliminate that visual fragmentation.
The result is a more unified interior in which hallways, offices, classrooms, and gathering areas feel like parts of the same facility rather than spaces that were renovated at different times.
Before and After: Updating Dated Commercial Flooring
The before-and-after photos from this project show how significantly flooring can change the overall appearance of a commercial interior.
Removing the dated combination of hard-surface tiles and replacing them with a consistent luxury vinyl plank gave the church a much more current appearance without requiring every area of the building to have its own flooring design.
The new flooring also provides a neutral foundation that allows furnishings, architectural details, signage, and other elements of the church to stand out.
For churches and other organizations considering a renovation, this type of approach can be especially effective when multiple areas need to be updated at the same time.

Commercial Flooring for Churches and Community Facilities
Church flooring has to work in spaces that may serve very different purposes throughout the week.
An entryway experiences different traffic than an office. A classroom has different needs than a meeting room. Kitchens and dining areas present another set of considerations, while hallways connect nearly every part of the facility.
That makes product selection and overall project planning particularly important.
For a project of this scale, choosing one commercial flooring product across multiple areas can simplify the design while creating a consistent appearance throughout the building.
It can also make future flooring decisions easier because the facility has an established flooring style rather than a collection of unrelated materials.
